Designing Safer Roadsides - Crash Demonstration Event

In order to facilitate a better understanding of the effects of roadside items on vehicle occupants when struck, crash demonstrations events are taking place on 21 and 22 May 2008. These are aimed at demonstrating, enabling discussion and allowing comparison of the performances of an unforgiving street lighting column and a high energy, passively safe lighting column. This event is being organised by The Passive Revolution, an independent road safety initiative dedicated to disseminating information on the use of passively safe roadside equipment. Other items being crash demonstrated are a steel signal post and the ramped end of a restraint system "protecting" a concrete bridge support.
